Fri., 31.05.2024 - 53 entries the day before the tournament
This year, the number of entries received in the last few days before the closing date left a lot to be desired. A total of 53 entries were received on the day before the tournament, which is below the average of recent years. The number of entries could still be increased at the weekend by late registrations from last-minute entrants. For the four hardbat classes on Saturday, there are 29 entries so far. There are currently 24 entries in the four sandpaper classes on Sunday, although the response in the two new classes Sandpaper III and IV leaves a lot to be desired, especially for the younger players. The largest class so far is the Hardbat I competition with 10 entries. It is noticeable that the entries for the Nordhorn Brettchen Open have arrived much earlier in the last five tournaments than in the past. Waiting until shortly before the closing date seems to have gone out of fashion. Many entries were received by e-mail; however, the registration option via myTischtennis was used more than usual this time. And there were no more telephone entries this year!
Fri., 31.05.2024 - Hall construction completed
The hall set-up was completed at around 8.00 pm today. Jonas Gellink, Fabian Veldboer, Hilmar Heinrichmeyer, Manfred Janke, Magnus Sarnow and Benje Holz had started setting up the twelve tables, the canteen and the loudspeaker system, which Manfred Janke had provided, shortly before 7 pm. Four of the six Vorwärts players then took part in the subsequent classic training session, although, as expected, no players from outside the club turned up. The helpers then also took the opportunity to play some sandpaper for the first time.
Tue., 28.05.2024 - NBO this time probably a national affair
Two days before the closing date for entries, it is becoming apparent that the NBO will be held without international guests, as was the case last year. This is due to competing events in Belgium, the Netherlands and France, the three countries that sent the most foreign participants to Nordhorn before the coronavirus break. In Belgium, the Belgian qualifying tournament for the next Classic World Championship in Mexico will take place in Ghent on Sunday (with classes for hardbat, sandpaper and wood), and in the Netherlands, the Disnierats summer tournament for hardbat and sandpaper will be held in Hoorn on Saturday. It is therefore not surprising that there are no entries from these countries. In France, hardbat and sandpaper tournaments are currently taking place almost every week, so that the French can also play tournaments in the classic competitions with a much shorter journey. As unfortunate as it is that these strong players will be missing in Nordhorn, the German starters can rest assured that they will split the prize money of 1,760 euros between them!
Thu., 23.05.2024 - Very good response so far
Exactly one week before the entry deadline on Thursday evening, there is exactly one more entry for the Nordhorn Classic Open than the average of the last seven previous tournaments at the same time. Seven tournaments were chosen as a basis for comparison because the clickball classes were introduced at that time. However, with 36 entries one week before the closing date, the previous high of 47 entries from 2017 was not reached at the same time. In view of the experience that almost half of all participants in the last seven tournaments have always registered in the last week before the tournament, it is quite conceivable that the record of 70 participants from 2015 will be surpassed this time. It is striking that many of the participants again want to start on both days of the tournament, and that most of the starters so far have not come from Lower Saxony but from North Rhine-Westphalia.
Thu., 23.05.2024 - Sandpaper bats are available for sale at the Nordhorn Classic Open
The light blue Dunlop sandpaper bats previously used at the Nordhorn Classic Open and the WCPP, which were not available for purchase in Germany, will be offered for sale at this year's tournament. The playing characteristics are almost identical to those of the new light grey Carlton bats that will be used at the NBO this time. 14 of these rackets in their original packaging are still available and will be sold on a first come, first served basis for €15.
Mon., 20.05.2024 - Reunion with Hendrik Gerrietzen
An old acquaintance from Nordhorn will be competing at the NBO for the seventh time. Hendrik Gerrietzen, who emerged from the youth department of SV Eintracht Nordhorn and has been working in the Sauerland region for many years, will be playing table tennis in Nordhorn again, as he has done at the last six tournaments. He will be competing in the Hardbat 1 and Clickball 1 classes for TV Sundwig.
Fri., 17.05.2024 - Please do not report any doubles yet!
SV Vorwärts Nordhorn would like to point out that it is still too early for double registrations. In Nordhorn, these can only be submitted verbally to the tournament organisers on the day of the tournament. In this way, the tournament management saves itself the annoying work of re-registering doubles, as it only has to deal with final doubles registrations on the day of the tournament, which only consist of players who have actually travelled to the tournament. It is therefore pointless to register for the doubles now - the entry list will only be opened on the Saturday of the tournament.
Thu., 16.05.2024 - Entries for the NBO now also possible via myTischtennis
We would like to point out that registration for the NBO is also possible this year via the table tennis portal myTischtennis. After the Q-TTR values of 11.05.2024, which are the basis for the class division at our tournament, were activated yesterday, all TT players registered with myTischtennis can choose this way to submit their entries for the individual competitions until the entry deadline on Thursday, 30 May. An additional e-mail is then not necessary. This registration method was not possible before 16 May 2024 because the Q-TTR values of 11 May 2024 were not available beforehand and therefore the eligibility of the players in the eight tournament classes could not be checked by the portal.
Sun., 12.05.2024 - Nordhorn tournament management team in action at the PingPongParkinson German Open
Three weeks before the Nordhorn Classic Open, the five-member tournament director team from SV Vorwärts Nordhorn faced a completely different challenge. At the Quooker PingPongParkinson German Open in the Nordhorn Kreissportzentrum, the Nordhorn team was responsible for the tournament management in the two halls with 44 tables. Tabea Veldboer, Maren Boomhuis, Dieter Benen, Fabian Veldboer and Hilmar Heinrichmeyer had been working there since Thursday, organising the competitions in the 15 competitions for the 263 starters, who were assigned to three performance classes depending on their degree of Parkinson's disease. Compared to the Nordhorn classic tournament, this means hard work for the well-coordinated team, which was also involved in the last three PPP German Open in Düsseldorf (2023), Obererlenbach (2022) and Nordhorn (2021). NBO co-founder Thorsten Boomhuis, head of PingPongParkinson Germany since 2020, organised another tournament in 2021 with the help of his home club, the PPP German Open.
Thu., 09.05.2024 - Women and girls are also welcome at the NBO 2024
Even though there are no separate classes for women and girls at the Nordhorn Classic Open, women and girls are once again very welcome on both tournament days in Nordhorn. They are eligible to compete in all eight classes. The women - just like the men and boys - will be divided into the four hardbat and sandpaper tournament classes (up to 1200/up to 1400/up to 1600/up to 3000) based on their Q-TTR values from the andro ranking list.
Thu., 02.05.2024 - Nordhorn Classic Open now also included in the Clickball tournament calendar
Jürgen Leu (Erfurt), who is responsible for Clickball at the DTTB, has now added the Nordhorn tournament to the tournament calendar at www.Clickball.de. This means that all German Clickball players can now find out about the Nordhorn tournament on the official Clickball website.
Tue., 30.04.2024 - What does "TTR-related" and "TTR-relevant" actually mean?
Since the quarterly TTR values from the andro ranking list have played a decisive role in all tournaments in Germany for several years now, we must point out two differences that are very important for our tournament: All classes of the NBO 2024 are "TTR-related" - this means that the Q-TTR values from 11 May 2024 are "referenced" for the class division. These values are therefore decisive for the class division in the hardbat and clickball area. However, the NBO 2024 are not "TTR-relevant" - the results are therefore not included in the andro ranking list and therefore have no "relevance" for the ranking list. This applies to both the four hardbat classes on Saturday and the four clickball classes on Sunday. Not only our classic tournament is not TTR-relevant - in principle, no hardbat and clickball tournaments can be TTR-relevant because they are not played 1:1 according to the international TT rules, but with deviations from them (especially with regard to the racket material). So nobody needs to be afraid that they will worsen their TTR value by taking part in our tournament - on the other hand, you can't improve it by doing well in our tournament either!
Fri., 26.04.2024 - No tournament licence required
Since we have already received corresponding enquiries, we would like to expressly point out that the tournament licence introduced by the German Table Tennis Association is not required for participation in our tournament this year. The regulations on the tournament licence, according to which every participant in an official individual tournament (singles, doubles, mixed) in Germany must have previously acquired a tournament licence, will not come into force until 01.07.2024, so that our tournament is not yet affected this time. How we will deal with the new modalities in the future has not yet been decided. In any case, nothing will change for us this year.
Fri., 26.04.2024 - Permanent starter Uli Watermann is back again
Today, Uli Watermann from TuS Bexterhagen, the most loyal out-of-town NBO starter, has registered for his 16th start in Nordhorn. He will be competing in the Hardbat I class as the defending doubles champion and, if successful, this would be his 7th success in doubles. The announced start in the sandpaper competition, on the other hand, would be his first in Nordhorn, having already gained experience in this competition several times at the German Clickball Cup in Fulda.
Fri., 26.04.2024 - Entries for the NBO currently not yet possible via myTischtennis
We would like to point out that it is not yet possible to register for the NBO via the table tennis portal myTischtennis. This is due to the fact that the classification for our tournament depends on the Q-TTR values from 11 May 2024, which are not yet known. For this reason, the portal is currently unable to check players' eligibility for the eight tournament classes, which is why no entries can be entered there at present. If you want to use this method, you will have to be patient until the middle of May or else send an email to hmeyer@ttvn.de.
Fri., 26.04.2024 - Former participants and interested parties have been contacted
Tournament organiser Hilmar Heinrichmeyer has now informed numerous people about the Nordhorn Classic Open by e-mail. The notification with reference to the highlights of the tournament as well as to the tournament homepage went in particular to the department heads of the clubs from the near and far circle around Nordhorn, but also to other individuals who have taken part in the tournament in recent years or are regarded as potential interested parties. As announcements are no longer sent out by post, the tournament notice by e-mail is now the main advertising measure for the tournament.
Thu., 25.04.2024 - NBO is ideal training opportunity for the 10th German Clickball Cup
This year, the German Clickball Championships will take place in the middle of the year, as in the previous year, on 8 and 9 June 2024 in Fulda at FV Horas Fulda. The tournament in Fulda is open to all German players and takes place exactly one week after the NBO. This means that the Nordhorn tournament once again offers an excellent opportunity for all local players to prepare for the German Championships under competitive conditions. We therefore hope that some of the best German clickball players will also be competing in Nordhorn and that the traditionally well-represented starters from the Netherlands, Belgium and France will therefore meet up with German competitors of equal calibre this year.
Wed., 24.04.2024 - Tournament news now also in English
The tournament announcement, the preview and the NBO tournament report have long been available in English on the tournament homepage. Now the tournament news is also available. In view of the international participation in the oldest German tournament for classical table tennis, this is a good opportunity for those interested from abroad to find out about the preparations for the tournament and the details.
Tue., 23.04.2024 - No more tournament advertising at tt-news
For twelve years now, all open tournaments from most German table tennis associations have been listed in the click-TT tournament calendar and consequently also in myTischtennis. This has drastically reduced the importance of the other internet tournament calendars, which is why SV Vorwärts Nordhorn is once again refraining from advertising in such tournament calendars this year. This also applies to the tt-news discussion forum. Since its importance and level of quality have declined considerably in recent months, SV Vorwärts has refrained from making corresponding entries in the tournament sections of neighbouring regional associations since last year.
Tue., 23.04.2024 - Internet invitation finalised
The tournament homepage of the Nordhorn Classic Open has now been updated and provides all information about the tournament in 2024. This includes the announcement, the English translation of the announcement, a Word and pdf version of the announcement for downloading, a preliminary report (also in English) and directions to the hall at the ALMA School.
Thu., 11.04.2024 - The first of ‘2000’ has registered
With Lars Brinkhaus, who emerged from TV Nordhorn, the first player with a Q-TTR value of over 2000 has now registered - to be precise, he had a Q-TTR value of 2145 in the February calculation. The long-time regional league and Oberliga player currently plays for the Hanoverian Oberliga champions and promoted regional league team SC Marklohe and will play on both days. With eight titles at the NBO, he is in second place in the all-time list of best players and could take over the top spot in the event of multiple successes.
Sat., 06.04.2024 - The sandpaper classes play with the grey Carlton bat again
For the third time, the NBO will once again be played with the new official Carlton sandpaper bats from England. These are the same bats that were used at the last two editions of the now discontinued WCPP (World Championship of Ping-Pong) at Alexandra Palace in London in 2019 and 2020. They are covered with grey sandpaper on both sides. On Sunday, one of them will lie on each half of the table and remain on its side of the net until the end of the tournament.
Sat., 30.03.2024 - 36 high-quality hardbat bats are available
As in previous years, standardised, high-quality hardbat bats specially produced for the Nordhorn tournament will be available for the hardbat competitions on Saturday. All 36 bats were already used with the new rubbers last year. They have the all-round blade ‘TSP Picco’ and are covered on the forehand and backhand side with the modern pimple rubber ‘Friendship R.I.T.C. 729 Dr. Evil’ (forehand red/backhand black). With the same playing characteristics, the only difference is the three grip shapes: straight, concave and anatomical. This means that SV Vorwärts Nordhorn can not only offer all players a standardised quality of hardbat racket at its tournament, but also a high-class one with which significantly more is ‘possible’ than with the very simple rackets that are predominantly used at many other hardbat tournaments.
Sun., 24.03.2024 - SV Motor Wolgast with the first entries
Just 12 days after the tournament announcement was published in click-TT tournament calender, the first entries have now been received: Jan Wienholz has already submitted his entry for SV Motor Wolgast from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for the NBO 2024, and as in the previous year, he is bringing two of his club's competitors with him, Jens Mitzlaff and Thomas Krüger. All three will be competing in the hardbat classes on Saturday and in sandpaper on Sunday.
Sat., 23.03.2024 - Nordhorn Classic Open will be the only international open tournament in the Ems-Vechte regional table tennis association in 2024
Following the merger of the two district associations of Emsland and Grafschaft Bentheim in summer 2019, to which the table tennis department of the NBO organiser has belonged for all 55 years of its existence, SV Vorwärts Nordhorn is now a member of the Ems-Vechte regional table tennis association. And even though the catchment area of the new regional association is four times as large as that of Grafschaft Bentheim, this does not change the fact that the NBO is the only internationally open tournament in the regional association. Unfortunately, the former major tournaments organised by ESV Lingen and SV Union Meppen no longer exist in Emsland either. Although the regional association itself organises two open tournaments - the Grafschafter Vorgabeturnier and the Emsländische Nostalgie-Cup - these tournaments are only open to players from clubs in the Ems-Vechte region. The Quooker PingPongParkinson German Open, supported by SV Vorwärts Nordhorn for the second time this year, is also open internationally, but only to players with Parkinson's disease. In this region, only the NBO is open to all players worldwide!
Sat., 16.03.2024 - Participant recruitment has started
At the Ems-Vechte regional ranking tournament in the Nordhorn Kreissporthalle l, the invitations to tender for the NBO 2024 were laid out for the first time to draw the attention of the tournament participants attending this year's tournament in Nordhorn in particular.
Tue., 12.03.2024 - Nordhorn Classic Open 2024 now officially approved
Today, less than a week after the application, the TTVN has granted the tournament authorisation for the 21st Nordhorn Classic Open. The tournament and its announcement details can now be found in the tournament calendar of click-TT Niedersachsen. The participants and results will also be available in the same place after the end of the tournament.
Thu., 07.03.2024 - Tournament announcement finalised in paper form
The tournament announcement for the Nordhorn Classic Open 2024, which again consists of a four-page leaflet in DIN A5 format, has now been finalised. Just under three months before the tournament, the recruitment of participants at other events can now begin.
Thu., 07.03.2024 - Application for tournament authorisation now completed
SV Vorwärts Nordhorn's tournament director Hilmar Heinrichmeyer has now entered the application for tournament authorisation for the 21st edition of the Nordhorn Classic Open in the tournament module of click-TT and is now waiting for approval from the TT-Verband Niedersachsen, which is responsible for authorising international open tournaments.
Thu., 07.03.2024 - Katrin Harms-Ensink once again on duty as head referee at the NBO
The head referee for Germany's oldest hardbat tournament has been confirmed: As last year, the Hoogstede association referee Katrin Harms-Ensink will be officiating at our tournament. Thanks to her commitment, SV Vorwärts Nordhorn will save the travelling costs for a referee with the appropriate qualifications who lives further away. In previous years, the head referee has already taken part in our tournament as a junior player.
Wed., 06.03.2024 - Entry fee unchanged - discount system also remains in place
At the 21st NBO, SV Vorwärts Nordhorn will continue to charge a standardised entry fee of €10 for adults and €5 for junior players, which has thus remained unchanged for the eighth time. As before, clubs can reduce their entry fee through two different discounts. For four or more players on one day, the discount for that day is 25%, while clubs with ten or more participants on one day only have to pay half the entry fee on that day. Of course, the discounts only apply if the registered players actually start and are not just ‘registered’. That is why each day is scored separately.
Wed., 06.03.2024 - NBO 2024 with four sandpaper classes for the first time
Ten years after the introduction of sandpaper classes at the NBO, there will be four sandpaper classes for the first time in 2024. This will give even the less powerful players a chance to win a tournament. The four sandpaper classes will have exactly the same TTR limits as the four hardbat classes.
Wed., 06.03.2024 - Once again, four hardbat classes will be offered
As in the last seven tournaments, there will be no Hardbat classes divided by age in 2024, but all players - regardless of age and gender - will only be divided into four classes according to their Q-TTR values. While the main Hardbat I class will be open to all (up to 3000), the Hardbat II class will remain at a maximum of 1600 TTR points, Hardbat III at 1400 points and the Hardbat IV class at 1200 TTR points. Classes III and IV are likely to include most of the junior players, who will then meet the men and women from the lowest divisions. The Q-TTR values from the andro ranking list of 11 May 2024 will be decisive for the tournament.
Wed., 06.03.2024 - 21st Nordhorn Classic Open definitely on 1 and 2 June 2024
Now that it has been confirmed that the sports hall of the Anne Frank School on von-Behring-Straße will be available on the desired date in the second quarter of the year, 1 and 2 June, the 21st edition of the Nordhorn Classic Open will once again take place this weekend as a hardbat and clickball tournament. Once again, 12 tournament tables will be set up. Further details will be finalised in the next few days, although there will be almost no changes to the tried and tested format of previous years.
Mon., 29.05.2023 - 21st Nordhorn Classic Open probably at June 1 and 2, 2024
In the search for a suitable date for the 21st Nordhorn Classic Open, the weekend of 1 and 2 June 2024 turned out to be the best solution. Therefore, this date will be planned for the time being. The prerequisite is that the sports hall of the ALMA school on von-Behring-Straße is available on the desired date.
